Bad Boys (Ride or Die): Still Thrilling & Funny!

Bad Boys (Ride or Die): Still Thrilling & Funny!

So far on my blog, I have reviewed TV shows, mainly streaming ones. Last Sunday though, I was finally able to go to the movies. I love seeing movies on the big screen and I especially enjoyed my experience this time as my theater upgraded their seats. The movie I went to see (making this my first movie review) was Bad Boys: Ride or Die! This is the fourth film in the Bad Boys franchise, which is doing excellent at the box office ($165 Domestic; 332 globally). I have seen all of the previous Bad Boys films, which I have enjoyed, and I enjoy seeing Will Smith & Martin Lawrence on the screen, even if it’s not Bad Boys. Now I know some people are against seeing the film after the slap scandal, but I have forgiven Smith, just like others have. And the amount of money that the film has made has shown that people are over the scandal. So without further ado, here are my thoughts on the movie.

Now, if you haven’t seen any of the films before, it follows Mark Lowrey (Smith) & Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) as Miami detectives. All of the previous films have been thrilling as the detectives have dealt with the cartel, crooks, drugs, etc. The films have always been funny, especially due to the banter between Smith & Lawrence. When it comes to the fourth film, it still hits the mark for these various reasons. I’m not going to spoil anything, but the fourth film is action-packed as we see both characters on the run, while trying to clear their former captain’s name. Since this was the plot, there was a lot of mayhem, which made the movie exciting. Also, in between the mayhem, the funny banter between Smith & Lawrence was there. There was a lot of funny moments between the two, which had the audience and I cracking up.

Another reason the movie is great is because of the casting. As I mentioned earlier, Smith & Lawrence play their parts well again, as they are both great actors. When it comes to the villains of the film, we had Eric Dane (Dr. Mcsteamy) & Ioan Gruffudd (Mr. Fantastic) playing the parts. Both of them played their parts well, as I rooted for Smith & Lawrence to take both of them down. When watching the film, I first thought that Gruffudd was on the good side due to his actions, but I eventually became suspicious. Also, we did see the return of some familiar characters from the last film, such as Vanessa Hudgens as Kelly. I have adored Hudgens since I was a kid and it was great getting to see her play her part again. Her character is sharp, as she is a weapon’s expert, which is nice to see. Also, there is a scene where she takes down Gruffudd’s character, which had me saying go girl! Vanessa is strong.

Now, this review is going to be short, as I don’t really have anything else to cover. Overall, I did enjoy seeing the movie, as I thought I would. There have been talks about a fifth film being made, but nothing has been confirmed. Smith and Lawrence have said they would love to reprise their roles and they hope other cast members will return, such as Hudgens. Also, Jerry Bruckheimer stated that they were waiting to see how the movie does at the box office before making official plans for a fifth film. As I mentioned in the beginning of my review, the movie is doing well at the box office, so a fifth film could potentially happen. If it does happen, it could be a while before we get it as the third film came out four years ago. Also, Lawrence will be headed on a comedy tour, while Smith has other upcoming projects such as the sequel to I am Legend. Even though it may take some time, I will definitely watch another one. And if you haven’t seen the films before, I hope you check them out, as you will be excited and laughing.

You can see Bad Boys: Ride or Die at your local movie theater right now. If you want to watch the first three Bad Boys, they are on Hulu.
