My Thoughts On The Emmy’s 2024

My Thoughts On The Emmy’s 2024

Welcome to another edition of Pop Culture! What’s Trending (Formally Pop Culture Under The Magnifying Glass). I haven’t posted in a while due to certain circumstances, but I’m ready to be more productive. Since I have time to post again, I want to focus on The Emmy’s. I watched the entire show which aired live on September 15th on ABC. It was a big night for many hit shows such as The Bear, Hacks, Shōgun, etc. And there were many hits and a miss of the night as well. Before I get into my post, I want to mention that I now have a Facebook page for my blog as well. If you want follow to the page, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565975003182

So without further ado, here are my thoughts on The Emmy’s 2024.

Hits of The Show:

 1) Shōgun Wins

If your new to my blog, you will find that I wrote a review about the hit FX show, Shōgun. Shōgun premiered in February of this year, to critical acclaim. Watching the hit show, I was impressed by the show for reasons such as the plot, characters, and setting. After the show ended, I knew that Shōgun would be nominated for many awards, which has happened. At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the show won a total of fourteen awards such as Outstanding Period Costumes, Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, etc. But the show won big again at the Primetime Emmys, winning Outstanding Drama Series. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama Series for their roles. At the end of the day, I was delighted to see that the series won big. For example, in my review covering the show, I highlighted that Sanada and Sawai played their parts excellent, leaving me contented with the show. It was great seeing that they were recognized for their work on the show.

2)  Tributes to Television

Throughout the night, The Emmy’s paid tribute to Television history, having many actors and actresses grace the stage. For example, Television lawyers were recognized, having Viola Davis, Gina Torres, and Christine Baranski introduce the segment. All of them having played iconic lawyers on television. There were also tributes to Television villains, doctors, etc. I’ve seen some people say that the tributes were not necessary, but I thought they were fun. It was a nice recognition of iconic characters that have went down in history. Also, it helped the show move along in its three-hour runtime.

3)  John Leguizamo’s Speech

During the show, Actor John Leguizamo took the stage and delivered a passionate and important speech. I’m not going to go into full detail about the speech, but if you want to check it out, here is a link: https://ew.com/john-leguizamo-calls-out-hollywood-brownface-2024-emmys-8713004

Hearing the speech, I was glad that the Emmy’s allowed it and that he spoke about diversity. Even though there are more diverse stories and People of Color (POC) being nominated, there can be improvement like Leguizamo stated. It was great though to see POC being recognized at the awards, which shows that things are going in the right direction.

Miss of the Show

1)     The Bear Backlash

I don’t watch The Bear, but from seeing the commercials, it looks like it’s an interesting show. The show, which has received critical acclaim, has won many awards in the past. This time around, the show won eleven awards, beating it’s previous record of ten. But this time around, there has been a lot of backlash as people see the show as a drama instead of a comedy. Like I mentioned, I don’t watch the show, but from seeing the commercials, it seems like a drama to me. It’s great that the show got recognition again, but I like to see real comedy shows win next time. I watch Only Murders In The Building (OMITB) and Abbott Elementary, which I hope will win more awards. No discredit to The Bear, but it’s time for another shows to win.

Jeremy Allen White, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach

There really wasn’t anything else that I didn’t mislike about the awards show. Overall, I enjoyed watching the 2024 ceremony. As I mentioned, it was great seeing more People of Color being nominated and winning. I thought the tributes to television were a nice touch to the ceremony. When The Emmy’s come around again, I do hope to see more true comedies such as OMITB win. There are more award shows to come, so more opportunities for actors and actresses to win.
