Still Entertaining & Romantic: Bridgerton Season Three, Part One! (Spoiler Alerts)
One Poster For Bridgerton Season Three

Note: Will feature some spoilers from Bridgerton Season Three, Part One

At first, I wasn’t interested in watching British period dramas, but not until Bridgerton came. Watching the first season of the Netflix hit show, I was fascinated by the plot full of drama, romance, mystery, etc. The costumes and scenery also help to capture my attention as well. Since then, I have looked forward to watching British period dramas such as Pride & Prejudice. Now, it’s 2024 and the third season of Bridgerton has finally arrived, being released into two parts, May 16th and June 13th. This season focuses on the blossoming love been Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, who have been friends since season one. Finishing the first four episodes of the new season, I was thrilled to see the two (Aka Polin) get together. That carriage scene was steamy!

Watching the four episodes, I mainly have good critiques, but I want to mention one thing that I don’t like: Where is Anthony and Kate? Even though they have appeared, I thought viewers would see more of them, especially me. Hopefully, we will get to see more of them in part two of season three. As I get into my good critiques, one thing that I like about the new season is the character development of Penelope and Colin. When it comes to Penelope, one thing that I like is her new appearance. If you haven’t watched Bridgerton, in the first two seasons, Penelope mainly wore bright shades of yellow, pink, and orange. Now, Penelope has switched over to wearing blues and greens, which I like. It symbolizes that Penelope is ready for a change, particularly wanting to find love and get married. Also, doing some research, the Bridgerton team revealed that the appearance change is also a nod to her love story with Colin, which is unique.

When it comes to Colin, it’s his personality change. If you haven’t watched the new season yet, Colin returns home from traveling as a different man. For example, in episode four, Colin is hanging out with his friends, who are raving about their sexual conquests and want to hear his experiences. Instead, Colin, who is drunk, doesn’t spill his beans and proclaims that he is tired of being indifferent towards the one thing that is authentic, which is love. Colin, who has developed feelings for Penelope, realizes that he wants to settle down, instead of messing around. Watching this scene, I was proud of Colin and I knew that he had come to terms with the fact that he loves Penelope. This is a real change for his character, which I applaud the Bridgerton team for.

Another thing that I have liked about this season so far is the character, Francesca Bridgerton. Watching the previous two seasons, Francesca wasn’t a major character, so it’s nice that the show is putting some focus on her. I do like Francesca as a character because I can relate to her being shy and not wanting to be in the spotlight. When it comes to her finding love, I totally see her with Lord Kilmartin instead of Lord Samadani. Even though Francesca and Lord Kilmartin have trouble expressing themselves through words, you can sense the attraction between their silence and gestures. Also, I understand Francesca hesitation towards Lord Samadani after he mentioned that he wants eight children. That is something Francesca does not want, especially after being a part of a big family.

Since we now have to wait for part two of season three, I would like to discuss some things that I could see happening:

1)     Penelope and Colin getting engaged

Spoiler alert: In the last very seconds of episode four, Colin tells Penelope, “Are you going to marry me or not.” Offering marriage, which Penelope will accept, but there may be some obstacles. First of all, Colin will have to ask Mrs. Featherington for her hand in marriage, so we will have to wait and see her response. Also, the other Bridgerton’s will have an opinion, including Eloise, especially after what happened between the two.

2)     Penelope being Lady Whistledown

This is a major issue as well for Penelope in her future marriage to Colin. (Spoiler Alert) At the beginning of season three, Penelope still mad at Colin for what he said about her, wrote some negative things about him as Lady Whistledown. Not liking that, Colin vows to Eloise that when he discovers the true identity of Lady Whistledown, he will ruin their life (End of Spoiler Alert). Either way, I think the truth will come out, damaging the blossoming love between the two. But everything will eventually work out in the end.

3)     Francesca’s decision

Like I said earlier, Francesca has two suitors to pick from: Lord Kilmartin & Lord Samadani. In the next part, Francesca will pick her suitor, which I think will be Lord Kilmartin. It will be nice to see this happen.

4)     The Featherington sister’s pregnancy

In the first part of the series, Mrs. Featherington was adamant on the other two sisters, Prudence and Philippa getting pregnant. Both of them trying and being competitive with one another, Philippa eventually becomes pregnant, while Prudence believes she is at the end of part one. The next part should address if Prudence is pregnant and show how Philippa is adjusting to the pregnancy.

5)   Mrs. Featherington having a heart to heart with Penelope

At the end of part one, Penelope expresses to her mom that she feels like she cares about her getting married, which I agree with. Mrs. Featherington really doesn’t try to connect, talk, etc. with her daughters, including Penelope. The whole time, Mrs. Featherington thought about Penelope getting married, especially to Lord Debling. Also, she called out Penelope on her reading and having the dream to find love. Seeing Mrs. Featherington face after Penelope speaks her mind, I think Mrs. Featherington will realize the way she has been acting and apologize. Also, it would be nice to see Mrs. Featherington try to get to know her daughters more.

As I finish my review, I have to say that I’m contented with the first part of Bridgerton. With part two coming out on June 13th, I will be counting the days. I know the next part is going to be more steamier, but also dramatic. You can watch the first part of Bridgerton season three on Netflix now.

If you made it to the bottom, thanks so much reading. I hope you subscribe and check out my other posts. Look out for my review for the second part- Brianna
